Further South (FS) 2027 is scheduled for Mar 5-8, 2027 in Portsmouth, United Kingdom.
Further South is a volunteer-run furry convention in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, which held its trial run in 2025. Located at the Holiday Inn Portsmouth on the southern coast, it is designed as a smaller-scale, budget-friendly gathering with a focus on community building and accessibility for first-time convention attendees.

Further South is designed for those who prefer an intimate, social environment over large-scale conventions. Operating at a smaller, approachable scale, it caters well to first-time attendees, featuring a centralized main stage for local music, accessible panel hosting, and ocean-side suiting opportunities near local cafes.
Born from community discussions dating back to 2017, the volunteer-run event launched its trial run in 2025 and is now building on that foundation. The organizers prioritize keeping the convention affordable and focused on local arts and merchandise.

From attendees
The nearest major airport is Southampton Airport (SOU), about 20 miles north of Portsmouth, with domestic flights from across the UK. For international arrivals, London Gatwick (LGW) connects to Portsmouth via direct Southern rail services in around 90 minutes. Portsmouth Harbour and Portsmouth & Southsea railway stations are both served by South Western Railway and Southern services from London Waterloo and London Victoria. Drivers can reach Portsmouth via the M27 and A3(M) from London in roughly two hours.
The convention is held at the Holiday Inn Portsmouth, which is the main venue and accommodation hub. Booking through the convention's room block is recommended to stay close to events and keep costs down. Portsmouth also has a range of budget and mid-range hotels along the Southsea seafront within a short walk or bus ride of the venue.

Further South's inaugural edition ran March 15-17, 2025 at the Holiday Inn Portsmouth. Originally conceived in late 2017 as a budget-friendly hotel convention for southern England, the project was delayed by the pandemic and a scheduling conflict in 2024. The convention announced a final attendance of 45 guests at its closing ceremony, day passes included, alongside £400.11 raised at the con for Trans Pride Portsmouth. That trial run tested the format before committing to a full annual schedule, and the positive reception led directly to the 2026 edition at the same venue.

Wyvern Events: the parent company runs an outdoor weekend too
Further South is the headline product of Wyvern Events Ltd., a UK company set up specifically to run furry events in the south of England. The con isn''t their only output: every September the same team also runs Forest Tails, a residential adventure weekend in the New Forest with archery, kayaking, forest orienteering and a campfire night, a different format from a hotel convention, and a fairly unusual second product for a sub-200-attendee furry brand to maintain.
2027 unbundles lodging: ticket and room sold separately at a new hotel
Through 2026 Further South sold a flat residential ladder (£230 triple / £255 shared / £440 single, room + breakfast bundled into the badge). 2027 splits that bundle: the team is moving the official room block across town to Holiday Inn Southsea and selling badges separately from rooms, attendees book their own discounted nights direct with the venue instead of buying a bundled residential ticket. Different commercial model, mid-cycle.
Yearly charity rotation, beneficiaries change each edition
Most UK cons stick with one charity partner across editions. Further South rotates the beneficiary yearly: 2025 raised £400.11 for Trans Pride Portsmouth, 2026 raised £375.32 for Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital. The annual rotation keeps the giving local to Portsmouth and southern England, but spreads it across causes rather than building a single multi-year fundraising relationship.
