Furry Takeover (FTO) is a camping-format furry convention held at the Fontana Village Resort and Marina in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Rather than hotel rooms, attendees book rustic cabins, lodges, and campsites across the resort village. The 2025 edition drew 764 attendees and raised $2,500 for local animal charities.
Instead of standard hotel hallways, FTO embraces the great outdoors. Attendees book rustic cabins, lodges, and campsites within the Great Smoky Mountains. This creates an immersive, village-wide atmosphere where furries become the primary guests for the weekend, with bonfires, minigolf, and outdoor movie nights replacing the typical hotel convention experience.
Following strong growth in 2025, FTO will return on September 25-27, 2026 with its "Space Cadets" theme. Despite its camping focus, the organizers integrate traditional furry programming, from a Dealer's Den and Artist Alley to high-energy dance competitions, directly into the village setting.
