The honest answer to "is there a furry convention near me" depends entirely on where you are sitting when you ask it. If you live in the American Midwest, two of the three largest conventions in the world are inside a day's drive. If you live in most of Africa, the nearest one is a flight, a visa, and a fortnight of annual leave.
Nobody selling you a list wants to say that part out loud. So this guide is a method instead of a list: how to search by region, how to set a travel radius you will actually honour, and what to do when the nearest con is genuinely too far. We publish 195 conventions across 42 countries and 75 recurring local events, so most of the answers below come straight out of that data.
Open the map first. Our convention map puts every published con on a single pannable world view. Click a pin and you land on that con's full guide. A ranked list of ten blue links cannot show you that the second result is forty minutes closer than the first, and that is usually the only fact you care about.
Then set a radius and hold yourself to it. Decide your limit before you start browsing. Four hours in a car, a domestic flight, an international one: pick one and write it down. People who skip this step fall in love with a con on another continent and then spend a month talking themselves out of it.
Then check the month. A con being close is worthless if it lands the week of your sister's wedding. The upcoming list sorts everything by date so you can see what is genuinely next rather than what is merely nearby.
Verify on the con's own site last. Dates move, venues change, and small cons go quiet without announcing it. More on that below.
The fandom does not distribute itself evenly, and pretending otherwise sets people up to feel cheated.
Of our 195 published conventions, 75 sit in North America and 57 in Europe. Asia holds 40 across 11 countries, driven mostly by mainland China, Japan and Taiwan. Latin America has 16 across six countries. Oceania has 5. Africa has one, South Afrifur in Johannesburg.
So the practical definition of "near" shifts with your postcode. A furry in Ohio can reach Anthrocon in Pittsburgh, which drew 20,618 attendees in 2026, and Midwest FurFest in Rosemont, which drew 16,925 in 2025, without ever booking a flight. A furry in Perth is looking at a domestic flight minimum. A furry in Nairobi is looking at an international one.
Most attendees land on a three-to-six-hour drive as the ceiling for a regular con, and one flight a year for the big one they actually care about. Set your expectations there and the map gets much easier to read.
The densest region on the map by a wide margin. The largest cons are spaced across the year rather than bunched, with Further Confusion in January, Furry Weekend Atlanta in May, Anthrocon in July, Megaplex in August and Midwest FurFest in December, so a US or Canadian attendee has a big con available in most parts of the calendar. Fifty-seven conventions spread across twenty countries, which makes Europe the most internationally varied region even though it holds fewer cons than North America. Eurofurence in Hamburg drew 6,712 in 2025 and is the closest thing the continent has to an annual reunion. Cheap intra-European rail and budget airlines mean "near you" stretches further here than the raw distances suggest. See the Europe 2026 roundup.
Forty conventions across eleven countries, and the fastest-growing region we track. Infurnity in Taichung went from 62 attendees in 2015 to 3,251 in 2025. JMoF in Toyohashi reached 2,524 in 2026. The Asia-Pacific roundup covers the region in detail.
Sixteen conventions across Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Peru. Confuror in Guadalajara is the regional anchor at 2,635 attendees in 2025. Badge prices sit well below North American and European equivalents, with Confuror at 800 MXN against $80 for Anthrocon, which makes the region worth a look even if you live outside it.
Five conventions in Australia, led by FurDU on the Gold Coast at 2,086 in 2025, and one in South Africa. If you live in either region, budget for domestic flights as the normal case rather than the exception.
A convention is the most expensive and most logistically demanding way to meet furries in your area, and it is also the rarest. Your nearest con runs once a year. Your nearest furmeet might run once a month. Most articles on this topic skip that comparison entirely.

Germany alone accounts for 21 of those 75 events, more than any country except the United States at 31. If you live in the DACH region and have been telling yourself there is nothing local, check the events list before you conclude that.
A fursuit walk is the single best first outing in the fandom. It is free, it lasts an afternoon, you can leave whenever you want, and nobody expects you to own a suit to come along. Compare that to a four-day convention with a badge, a hotel and a flight, and it is obvious which one a nervous first-timer should try.
Conventions bunch up badly. Across our 190 dated 2026 conventions, October holds 26 and July holds 26, while January holds 7 and December holds 7.
That clustering cuts both ways. Autumn gives you the most options and the worst calendar conflicts, and two cons you want will sometimes fall on the same weekend in different countries. Winter gives you fewer options and a much better shot at a hotel room at a sane price.

Three things actually help. Pick one flight a year and make it count, using our budgeting guide to work out the real total rather than just the badge price. Three to six hours by car is the common ceiling for a regular con, with one longer trip a year for a larger one. Decide your own limit before you start browsing, because the map will happily show you something wonderful on another continent.

No. Most attendees at any convention do not own one. Fursuiters are the most visible part of a con and a small minority of the room.
Check our events list first, then the con or event's own social channels for a regional group. Many cities run a Telegram or Discord group that organises meets far more often than anything a listing site captures.
