Bringing your fursuit to a convention changes the entire experience. Suddenly, you're not just an attendee; you're part of the magic. But not all conventions do an equally good job supporting fluff, foam, and electronics.

Not every convention with a headless lounge qualifies as "fursuit-friendly." The distinction comes down to how deeply suiter needs are integrated into the event's planning, not just bolted on as an afterthought.
Headless Lounge Quality: Size matters, but so does equipment. A proper headless lounge has high-velocity fans for drying, accessible water stations, seating for resting suiters, mirrors for adjustments, and a clear policy keeping non-suiters out (except registered handlers). The best lounges also provide basic repair supplies and charging stations for cooling vests and LED electronics.
Climate Control: Fursuiting generates significant body heat. Conventions in warm climates need aggressive air conditioning in suiting areas. Venues with outdoor-only photo areas in summer are a challenge. The best conventions either maintain cool indoor spaces or schedule outdoor activities during cooler morning or evening hours.
Changing Facilities: Dedicated suiting-up rooms with enough space to spread out a full suit, hang pieces, and change without bumping into other suiters are a sign that the convention takes its suiting population seriously. Cramped, converted closets do not count.
Parade Organization: A well-run fursuit parade has clear staging areas, defined routes that account for suiter mobility limitations, handlers stationed along the route, and water available at the end point. Poorly organized parades where suiters stand in direct sun for 30 minutes waiting to start are a safety concern.
Venue Layout: Wide hallways, elevators with enough capacity, and short distances between the headless lounge and main event spaces all contribute to a positive suiting experience. Multi-building venues where suiters must walk outdoors between spaces in summer heat are a drawback.

MFF is one of the three largest furry conventions in the world (16,925 attendees in 2025, alongside Anthrocon and Furry Weekend Atlanta), and it shows in their fursuit support. They dedicate massive ballrooms solely to headless lounges, equipped with high-velocity drying fans, water stations, and repair kits. The parade is legendary, but even just walking the convention center (which is connected to the Hyatt Regency) offers wide hallways and great climate control. The December timing in Illinois means outdoor temperatures are cold, which works in suiters' favor. Stepping outside for a quick cool-down is always an option.

Anthrocon is the Fursuit Parade. With thousands of suiters marching through the streets of Pittsburgh and the entire city cheering them on, there is no feeling like it. The David L. Lawrence Convention Center is spacious with high ceilings and good airflow, and the headless lounges are frequent and well-managed by a dedicated team. Pittsburgh's moderate July weather is more forgiving than southern conventions, though hydration remains critical.
Location: Orlando, FL Why it wins: Comfort in the heat.
Florida is hot, but Megaplex knows how to handle it. Its headless lounges are kept frigidly cold with industrial cooling and multiple fan stations. The convention has a strong focus on performance and usually features large, accessible stages for dance competitions and skits. The hotel-based format means you are never far from air conditioning or your room.

EF treats fursuiting as an art form. The lighting on their main stage is professional-grade, making it the best place to get high-quality video of your performance. The changing areas are strictly regulated for safety and comfort.
Location: Atlanta, GA Why it wins: The vibe.
FWA takes over the Marriott Marquis, famous for its massive atrium. While the elevators can be a challenge (protip: use the service elevators if allowed or designated suiter lifts), the sheer energy of thousands of suiters in that atrium is unmatched.
These conventions are building strong reputations for suiter support and are worth watching.

Held at the Grand Sierra Resort, BLFC benefits from a massive single-venue setup with everything under one roof. The dry Nevada climate is easier on suiters than humid southern conventions, and the resort's sprawling interior means plenty of space for impromptu suiting. Their headless lounges have expanded in recent years to match growing attendance, and the outdoor pool area offers unique photo opportunities.

NFC has quietly built one of the best suiting environments in Europe. The Scandinavian venue is consistently well-climate-controlled, the parade through central Malmö draws enthusiastic public crowds, and the convention's organized photo sessions with professional lighting setups rival what you find at much larger events. Cool Nordic weather is a natural advantage.

Denver's high altitude means lower humidity, which makes fursuiting noticeably more comfortable compared to sea-level conventions. Denfur has invested in expanding their headless lounge facilities, and the Sheraton Denver Downtown keeps the whole convention inside one hotel, with wide, accessible corridors. The city's mild summer weather and walkable downtown also make outdoor suiting sessions viable.

Canada's largest furry convention has grown its suiting infrastructure to match increasing attendance. The venue offers good climate control, well-organized changing areas, and a fursuit-friendly layout. The convention's photo team provides organized shoot sessions with backdrop setups, giving suiters access to quality photos without needing to arrange their own photographer.
A good handler is the difference between a comfortable suiting session and a stressful one. If you need a handler or want to volunteer as one, conventions offer several resources to connect you.
Most conventions maintain a handler coordination channel in their Telegram or Discord server. Post your suiting schedule and what you need. Some suiters want a full-time handler for every session, while others just need someone to walk with them during crowded events. If you are attending your first convention and do not know anyone, the headless lounge staff can sometimes connect you with experienced handlers.
Handlers are responsible for watching the suiter's blind spots, carrying water bottles and personal items, guiding the suiter through crowded areas, and being ready to help if the suiter needs to de-suit quickly. Handlers should also know the location of the nearest headless lounge, first aid station, and the suiter's hotel room. Learn your suiter's "I need to leave now" signal before heading out.
Handlers are not bodyguards. You do not need to aggressively block people from approaching. Your role is to facilitate positive interactions while keeping the suiter safe. Gently redirect people who try to glomp or grab the suit, ensure the suiter has clear sightlines in crowds, and watch for signs of overheating (stumbling, slowing down, not responding to interaction).
