Notes on FurryJoA

3 quirks & policies that don't fit the highlights grid.

  • Korean falconry & sichime: heritage-craft booth with two conservation NGOs

Sunday-only, FurryJoA runs an on-site cultural-heritage booth co-staffed by the Korea Bird Protection Association (한국조류보호협회) and the Han River Biology Conservation Research Center (한강생물보전연구센터). The programming covers a traditional Korean falconry experience and a make-your-own sichime workshop, the sichime (시치미, 매꼬리표) is the historic name-tag tied to a hunting hawk's tail to identify its owner, a Korean folk-craft tradition tied to the country's intangible cultural heritage. Sessions cap at roughly twelve attendees each and run under the Bird Protection Association's safety control. A cross-institutional cultural-heritage partnership with two named civic conservation bodies is structurally unusual at a furry con, most charity ties run the con's money outward to a cause; this one runs heritage-craft education inward to attendees.

  • Pre-purchase social-media screening: orders can be cancelled before check-in

Most cons publish behaviour codes that fire on the convention floor. FurryJoA fires one before check-in. The rule26 guide makes explicit that pre-registered packages may be cancelled if the buyer's fursuit has a public social-media history of posting pornography or equivalent adult expression, with BDSM, latex, and ABDL named even when no skin is exposed. The mechanism is a pre-event screen against the buyer's online footprint, and it is the operational expression of the venue itself: the YMCA International Youth Culture Center in Goyang is an all-ages, family-attended civic site, and the con publishes the cancellation clause as the price of keeping its programming and dealers den compatible with that venue category. Adult-fetish props (Fetish Dog Mask, latex suits, latex masks) are also banned campus-wide, including in hostel rooms.

  • Campus carve-out: Wellness Sports Center off-limits to fursuiting

The YMCA campus has two buildings, and FurryJoA carves the fursuit perimeter exactly along the line between them. Fursuiting is allowed in and around the YMCA International Youth Culture Center building and the adjacent athletic field where Saturday's outdoor group photo happens, but the neighbouring YMCA Wellness Sports Center is explicitly off-limits because it shares the campus with non-attendee civic traffic and is not affiliated with the con. The Sunday dealers' den opens to Super Sponsors at 11:00 and general at 12:00, a one-hour priority window operationalising tiers as floor access.
