CampFire Tails 2026 ran June 11-15 at the Ogden Group Camp in the Deschutes National Forest, moving a month earlier than its usual midsummer slot. Registration again used the lottery system (attendee $100, patron $160), and the "Happenings" format let campers host their own activities rather than following a guest-of-honor lineup. The convention had not published an attendance count or a charity total for the year as of early July 2026.
CampFire Tails 2025 hosted 150 campers in the Deschutes National Forest for a medieval-themed retreat. The community raised $11,143 for the Cat Adoption Team.

USFS Deschutes National Forest tenure: a third land-tenure model
Campfire Tails operates on United States Forest Service land within Deschutes National Forest. Federal forest tenure sets the rules the convention runs under: a per-site occupancy cap, USFS fire restrictions that can tighten with no notice in an Oregon summer, and no permanent structures. A privately-owned campground would let organisers negotiate those terms; on USFS land they are handed down.
Camping on Oregon's youngest lava flows
The campsites sit on Northwest Rift Zone basalt approximately 7,000 years old, and the nearby Big Obsidian Flow (within Newberry National Volcanic Monument) erupted around 690 CE, the youngest lava flow in Oregon.
Three-stage lottery with the "+1 designation" payment window
Camp Feral! and Wild Nights run individual-seat raffles for capped attendance. Campfire Tails runs a three-stage lottery with a designated "+1" payment window, distinct from a typical first-come ticketing flow.
