After 2025's introspective "Personal Mythology" and 2024's mythologically heavy "Ragnarök," "Cirque du Nord" marked a tonal shift toward spectacle. The Nordic-circus aesthetic gave the convention's volunteer art and decor teams an explicit theatrical framing, big-top motifs, ring-leader staging, tiered formations that read clearly across the main hall.
The defining visual of the weekend (preserved in the cover image above) was the staircase-formation group portrait: a tier of fursuiters stacked vertically through the venue's atrium, framed like a circus poster, with a constellation of characters reading from bottom to top. That format showed up across community photo sets and ended up as the most-reshared NFC 2026 image in the days after closing.

It's the kind of theme that tends to produce strong themed-suit one-offs in the months before the convention (trench-coat over a fursuit, fedora-and-fursuit detective combos) and to anchor the convention's main-stage staging more tightly than a more abstract concept would.
NFC's run of strong narrative themes has now stretched across Ragnarök → Personal Mythology → Cirque du Nord → Crime Noir, four consecutive years of staging-first, character-driven themes rather than year-themed pastiche or pop-culture borrows. That consistency has shaped a distinct NFC visual identity within the broader European convention scene.

The Clarion Hotel & Congress Malmö Live in Malmö, Sweden, paired with the historic Valhalla building ten minutes away by free shuttle. NFC has run this two-venue setup since 2018. The Clarion is a short transit from Malmö Central Station, which connects directly to Copenhagen Airport (CPH) via the Øresund Bridge, most European attendees fly to CPH and ride into Malmö rather than flying into Malmö (MMX) directly.
