Canada's flagship furry convention ran March 20 to 22, 2026 at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto under the theme "Starbound Sabbatical." Furnal Equinox closed at 3,637 attendees, virtually flat against 2025's 3,690, and raised at least $30,538 for Procyon Wildlife. It was FE's final year at the Westin: the 2027 edition moves to the Sheraton Centre Toronto on February 13 to 15, 2027.

After 2025's "Monsters In Toronto," a high-energy creature-feature year, Furnal Equinox softened the register for 2026. "Starbound Sabbatical" played a cool-toned cosmic-vacation aesthetic that paired surprisingly well with Toronto's March weather: where "Monsters In Toronto" produced loud, expressive staging built for energy, "Starbound Sabbatical" produced subtler, deep-space-themed decor leaning on blues, purples, and slow-warm lighting.
The thematic match for Zee the Raccoon and Finn the Panther as Guests of Honor read more loosely than at a theme-heavy con like NFC or LVFC. FE's GoH program weights individual artist and performer presence over theme alignment, but the convention's main-stage staging did pull the cosmic motif through clearly across the dance lineup.
Our winter cons guide covers the late-winter and early-spring circuit, and where FE sits in the Canadian and Northeast U.S. calendar.
Furnal Equinox closed 2026 at 3,637 attendees, essentially level with 2025's 3,690. After several years of double-digit year-over-year growth, a flat year at a venue FE was already preparing to leave reads less like slowing demand and more like a convention that had reached the practical limit of its footprint. The 2027 move to a larger downtown venue is the structural answer.

Furnal Equinox 2026 raised at least $30,538 for Procyon Wildlife, a Newmarket, Ontario wildlife rehabilitation organization, per the convention's own post-con announcement. That is a 28% increase over 2025's $23,920.10, continuing a steady annual climb in FE's charity numbers.
Procyon has been FE's charity partner across recent years. The continuity matters: a beneficiary that depends on convention dollars year over year produces a stronger convention-to-community relationship than a one-off pick would.
The 2026 edition ran at the Westin Harbour Castle, on Toronto's waterfront at the foot of Bay Street. From 2027 the convention moves inland to the Sheraton Centre Toronto, opposite Nathan Phillips Square in the middle of the downtown core. The move trades a waterfront setting for a more central one, with more transit and food within a short walk.
Most attendees fly into Toronto Pearson (YYZ), which connects to downtown on the UP Express train to Union Station in about 25 minutes. Union is a short walk from both venues, which makes FE one of the easier major North American conventions to reach without a car. Billy Bishop (YTZ), on the island just off the waterfront, serves a smaller set of regional routes and is closer still.
For attendees crossing the border, remember that a convention trip is still a trip: bring your passport, and be ready to answer plainly what you are visiting for. Toronto in February is properly cold, so a suit bag is not the only thing you will be carrying.
Our first con packing list and winter cons guide cover the cold-weather specifics.
FE has grown into Canada's largest furry convention over a long run of steady years rather than a single breakout:
| Year | Attendance |
|---|---|
| 2025 | 3,690 |
| 2026 | 3,637 |
The flat 2026 result is the notable one. It arrives after several years of consistent climbing, and it arrives in the convention's last year at a venue it had already decided to leave. A larger downtown venue is the obvious answer to a convention that has stopped growing while demand has not.
The 2027 edition of Furnal Equinox moves to the Sheraton Centre Toronto and runs February 13 to 15, 2027. The convention has stated the reason for the calendar shift plainly: due to restrictions at the new venue, FE now runs in February rather than its long-standing March slot.
The Sheraton Centre is a substantially larger downtown convention hotel and represents a real scale-up. FE has already announced the 2027 theme, "Critter Clash," built around three factions (Strays, Wildland Wardens, and Glowparty), with Chise and Amyte as Guests of Honor.
Furnal Equinox has built its reputation on programming quality rather than scale. It is the largest furry convention in Canada, but it has never tried to compete with the U.S. mega-cons on headcount, and the result is a convention that consistently feels well run rather than merely large.
The art and maker programming is the clearest expression of that. FE's dealers' room and artist alley draw a strong Canadian and cross-border contingent, and the convention's panel track has historically leaned toward craft: fursuit construction, illustration technique, and the practical business of working as an artist in the fandom. For attendees who come to conventions to learn something rather than only to socialise, FE punches well above its size.
The move to the Sheraton Centre gives that programming more room to breathe. The interesting question for 2027 is not whether FE can fill a bigger venue, which the 2026 numbers already answer, but whether it can scale up without losing the density that made it worth attending in the first place.
