Both of Pelican's popular fursuit-head cases roll and both survive checked baggage. The real choice between them is shape. The Pelican 0340 is a deep 18-inch cube: it takes a tall head and nothing else. The Pelican Air 1637 is long and flat, a roll-aboard-style case whose interior runs 59.5 cm end to end but only 33.7 cm deep. If your head is long, wide, or travelling with a partial, the 1637 has the room. If it is tall, the cube still wins.
For a suiter with a large head, the constraint is usually a single dimension that will not fit anything sensible. The 1637's 59.5 cm length is the answer to long muzzles and wide ear spans that make a cube impossible. It protects the head to Pelican's usual watertight, airline-tough standard, and the Air resin shaves weight off a case this size so you are not fighting the checked limit before you start.
The other reason people land here is capacity. A head plucked into the foam usually leaves enough side room for handpaws, a tail, or a balaclava, which turns one checked case into your whole travel kit rather than a case plus a duffel.
Interior and exterior dimensions, both weights, the wheel and handle details, and the IP67 certification are Pelican's own published figures (1637 Air case datasheet, retrieved 26 July 2026). We have not independently weighed the case.
The 1637 is a checked case, so its job starts at bag drop and ends at the carousel. Where the shape pays off is on the way there: a long flat case tracks behind you on its trolley handle the way a suitcase does, and it lies flat in a car boot or a hotel wardrobe instead of dominating the floor like a half-metre cube.
The interior depth of 33.7 cm clears most full heads. Very tall or boxy sculpts that need the 0340's 45.7 cm of depth will still not fit here, so measure your head's height before you commit. That is the trade in one line: the 1637 gives you length and loses you depth.
