MidWinter Frolic is a small winter furry camping weekend presented by Minnesota Furs. It is built around shared cabins, a communal lodge, meals, snow, and low-key social time rather than convention-hall programming. The next edition runs January 15-17, 2027 at Whitewater State Park in southeastern Minnesota.
This is a semi-communal outdoor event, not a convention. Attendees stay in the park's cabins, share the lodge and meals, and are asked to help with cooking, cleanup, activities, and keeping the site running. The compound is fursuit-friendly, with space for snow play, hiking, photography, games, drawing, reading, and relaxed socializing. The event is 18+ and the state park does not allow alcohol on the premises. There is no dedicated dealer area, and the group site has limited cell service and no normal Wi-Fi access.
Registration is through the official MidWinter Frolic RegFox form. As checked on September 17, 2026, Individual Registration costs $109, Wing Registration costs $600 and is sold out, and Wing Occupant Registration costs $85 with a valid wing code. The male-cabin individual option was sold out, while the female-cabin option had six places remaining and Wing Occupant Registration had fourteen places remaining at that check. Individual and Wing Occupant registration close at 23:59 on November 30, 2026, subject to the 90-person cap. The inventory is live, so recheck the RegFox form before making travel plans.
The Whitewater State Park Group Center hosts the event at 19041 Highway 74, Altura, Minnesota 55910. The Minnesota DNR park page is the authoritative route and facility reference. Attendees driving to the park need a separate Minnesota State Park vehicle permit. The organizer warns that the final road can be dark and icy in winter and recommends returning before sundown if leaving the park. Rochester is roughly 30 minutes away for supplies and services, but the park site itself is remote and has limited connectivity.
Yes. The official registration form requires attendees to be at least 18 years old on January 15, 2027, and the FAQ explains that the mature policy also reflects the remote winter setting and safety risks.
No. The organizer explicitly describes it as a low-key winter event rather than a convention, with shared lodging and participant-supported activities.
Individual registration includes a bunk, meals, and the weekend activities. Wing Registration buys a full wing arrangement with one registration and four free occupant codes, while Wing Occupant Registration is for a person who has received a valid wing code. Bring bedding, toiletries, towels, and toilet paper because those are not standard hotel amenities.
Yes, the rented cabins, lodge, and commons are described as fursuit-friendly. The organizer recommends partials, a buddy system, and extra care on icy or wooded trails, and the park asks visitors not to suit at the welcome complex.
No. Whitewater State Park rules do not allow alcohol on the premises, and the event's registration policies require attendees to follow the park rules.
